Trustees and staff from Brentford FC Community Sports Trust welcomed participants of a charitable walk at the Gtech Community Stadium on Friday evening to help raise awareness and help find a cure for Motor Neurone Disease (MND).
March of the Day II was organised by the Darby Rimmer MND Foundation, which was founded in 2019 by former Liverpool, Bradford City and Bolton Wanderers footballer Stephen Darby and his friend, and British Forces Veteran, Chris Rimmer, after the pair were diagnosed with MND.
Very sadly, Chris passed away in 2022, but the charity continues to fund and assist research into the illness with the quest of finding a cure, as well as offering emotional support networks for those diagnosed.
From Wembley to Ipswich
The three-day walk covered 178 miles from Wembley Stadium to Ipswich Town, stopping off at 26 other football clubs along the way, including Brentford FC, and featured several former professional players taking part in various legs of the walk.
Brian Burgess and Sharon Wright, who are both Trustees at Brentford FC CST, joined the 3.77-mile walk from Queens Park Rangers to Brentford on Friday evening along with former QPR and Bees midfielder Andy Sinton, as well as the core walkers and other fundraisers in an event which united the football community.
Making a Positive Impact
Stephen Darby, co-founder of the Darby Rimmer MND Foundation, said: βMarch of the Day has received a huge amount of support. It has brought together people, fans and football clubs and ex-football players and managers who are all supporting the Foundation and the MND community.
βWhen those who are diagnosed with MND see people showing their support through events like this one, it gives us the strength to keep fighting daily. Together we can make a positive impact on MND and hopefully one day we will see a cure for this disease.β
