The Trust’s Premier League Kicks programme has delivered a six-week social action project in partnership with waste management company SUEZ to educate young people about responsible recycling, sustainability and the values of looking after the local environment.

Delivered at Gunnersbury Park Sports Hub, the sessions have incorporated football and skills based sessions alongside educational and social action challenges to engage with the participants.

Fostering Community Engagement

The main goal was to remove litter from Gunnersbury Park and to enhance the local environment, but to also educate the young people on why it is important to keep our parks and green spaces clean and what impact waste has on the environment.

Overall, the Clean Up project was a successful social action initiative that made a tangible difference to the local environment while fostering community engagement and environmental awareness.

Brentford FC

Brentford FC published its first-ever sustainability report for the 2023/24 season in December 2024, which outlines the club’s work so far in sustainability and the approach to take going forward.

In the report, the Club acknowledged both the environmental challenges society faces and the opportunities we have to be part of the solution to climate change.

The Club’s sustainability strategy outlined in the report consists of five pillars: governance, climate, circularity, nature and biodiversity and engagement.

The report highlights some of the club’s work on sustainability, including:

  • The establishment of Brentford’s sustainability advisory group made up of industry experts who will help guide the club.

  • The process of assessing our carbon footprint and ensuring we can keep improving our data quality to accurately calculate our use of greenhouse gases

  • Calculations of how much waste the Club generates so we can take steps towards a circular economy and reuse, recycle and remake

  • Regenerating natural habitat through initiatives such as the Gtech Community Garden created in the summer

Sustainability has become of increasing importance to the club. The first-ever survey in this area showed that on average, fans ranked the importance of sustainability an 8.1 out of 10.
