Brentford FC Community Sports Trust’s Match of the Day feature shot at Gunnersbury Park Sports Hub aired on BBC One on Sunday 24 December 2023.

The backdrop for the feature was the launch of our latest Social Impact Study celebrating a headline valuation of £143,076,836 for the Club and Trust. The figure, calculated through the Substance Social Impact and Value report, estimates the economic and social contribution that Brentford FC and the Community Sports Trust made to west London during a three-year reporting period from 1 April 2020 – 31 March 2023.

Strong working relationship

Both the feature and Social Impact Study launch event highlighted the strong working relationship Brentford has with the London Borough of Hounslow, which played a pivotal role in granting planning permission for the Gtech Community Stadium in 2013.

When the application was approved by the London Borough of Hounslow - fundamental to the consent was to increase activity by 30% within three years of being in the new stadium or by 50% if gates averaged 10,000 or more during the period.

Three years on from the opening of the Gtech Community Stadium and Community Stadium Hub, the Club commissioned Substance to produce a new social impact and valuation report.

With Brentford playing in the Premier League and gates regularly hitting over 17,000 people, The Trust surpassed the original targets outlined by the London Borough of Hounslow by 454%, with a social impact value of £70.6m for the year 2022/23.

Speaking on the MOTD feature, Councillor Katherine Dunne, Deputy Leader of the London Borough of Hounslow said, “What’s unique about the relationship between Brentford Football Club and Hounslow Council is that it truly is a two-way partnership.

“Brentford help us to realise some of the priorities that we have for the Borough and were helping the Club to succeed as well.”

Giving Back

Brentford defender Mads Roerslev also spoke to the MOTD cameras and said, “It's very important for us as Brentford players to engage with the community and we also like to do it. Brentford is a club that loves the local community and we work a lot with it and it’s nice as a player to give a bit back.”
