On Thursday Brentford FC Community Sports Trust hosted its first corporate volunteering day at the Community Stadium Hub.
Taylor Wessing and Amazon
Working closely with Taylor Wessing and Amazon, the day encompassed and reflected the Trust’s values of include, innovate and inspire.
Kicking off with an introduction to the Trust, covered by CEO Lee Doyle, Director of Operations Luke Skelhorn, and Head of the Community Hub, Hannah Barnett, the visitors learnt about the Trust’s journey from inception to the current size and scope, and also about future ambitions.
Workshops With Local Students
Later in the morning 30 students from local schools joined the group for an employability insight day, with a focus on careers in law. This included icebreakers and interactive tasks which explored communication skills, the diversity of skills needed for a high performing starting 11, and an introduction to debating and forming an argument.
As the morning progressed representatives from Amazon presented an industry challenge with the students either arguing for or against a set scenario using legal frameworks. The lawyers guided the young people’s ideas, using critical thinking and questioning. The students then had the chance to practice their public speaking by feeding back to the room.
The day concluded with lunch from local caterer Pizza Si, before a glimpse behind the scenes with tour of the Gtech Community Stadium, home of Brentford Football Club.
Sparking Interest
Jo McKeegan, Corporate Counsel, Content Policy Legal Team at Amazon, said: "This event was an excellent opportunity to spark interest in the study of law, and help young people build the skills needed in the next generation of legal professionals. It was wonderful to see the students’ enthusiasm, insights, and problem solving; they raised many talking points we had not expected and allowed their creative thinking to build great conversations.
"I’d like to thank the Trust for their organisation and dedication to making this event such a success!"
